Last weekend our riders were in action in the Kanturk 3 Day a timed Stage race event held on Bank Holiday Saturday Sunday and Monday our underage riders and our Senior riders were in action over the weekend.
The Underage races consisted of a road race on Saturday morning with a TT on Saturday afternoon and road race on Sunday. The Killorglin riders performed brilliantly and gave it their all in the U12 category Aona O’Shea took 7th overall and also took two fourth place stage placings. In the U14 category Tadhg O’Shea and Tiarnach O’Shea took part in U14 event the lads put in a great effort all weekend long Tadhg was unfortunate to get held up in traffic on the led in to Kanturk Town on the first stage and would have been in contention for placing Tiarnach was also unlucky to receive a time penalty but was undeterred by it and finished well on General Classification.
Our Seniors who raced in the event over the weekend were Edward Casey Micheal O’Shea and Mike O’Shea their event consisted of a 100km road race on Saturday afternoon an 8km TT on Sunday morning a 70km road stage on Sunday afternoon in Banteer and 90km road stage on Monday morning.
The lads rode exceptionally well all weekend Mike O’Shea was unfortunate to endure mechanical trouble on stage one Edward along with Micheal both put in solid time in the Time Trial and Sunday morning with it all to play for on Monday mornings stage Micheal O’Shea was fighting for a podium position and fight he did as a group of 14 got clear Micheal and a Junior rider from the promoting Kanturk club got a small advantage off the front of this group and decided to capitalize on it in the end our club man finished a brilliant 2nd on the stage and really gave it his all on the day an outstanding result for the rider and the club to have a podium finish in this gruelling race. As a result of his placing he now has enough points to move up into the A1 category well done Micheal!!
Our Sunday morning group were out again last weekend kindly coordinated by Gay Gallagher. Club spin will be only on Tuesday this week as the club are hosting the first round of the county league on Thursday evening with open from 6.15pm at Killorglin Sports and Leisure until 6.45pm and racing at 7pm
