This week the Sunday morning leisure group of Killorglin cycling club set off Friday evening in the Club Bus to Galway for the Tour de Conamara cycle.

The club was well represented at the roll out from Clifden at 9:30 Saturday morning with 9 members flying the club colours. Weather conditions were very favourable with light winds and bright sunshine from start to finish. A very scenic route of gentle rolling hills with no real climbing challenges made a very welcome change from some of our more demanding Sunday group spins. The landscape was dramatic throughout from the white sandy beaches of the little coves and inlets of Ballyyconneely, Roundstone and Kilkieran to the wild country of Maam and Maum, returning to Clifden via Leenaun, Kylemore Abbey and Letterfrack.

We also had the pleasure of Sliabh Luchra members for company for most of the day. At the finish line a great reception welcomed us on our return. After a barbeque and light refreshments we returned to Galway City for a club dinner and one or two beers in time to cheer on Connaught. Returning to Kerry early Sunday afternoon everyone on the bus was in full agreement that a great weekend was had by all. Plans for our next road trip are already afoot.

As the Stephanie O’Sullivan Memorial cycle is on next Sunday the 5th of June the majority of the leisure group will be supporting this local event. Thus it is envisioned that the next organised Sunday leisure coffee spin will be on 12th of June route to be determined.

Killorglin Cycling Group welcomes any cyclist who wants to join us for our Sunday morning coffee spins just PM us on facebook for details.
