Peter Clendennon topped off a great week by taking 5th place overall in the County Road Race Championship today in Tralee, his performance secured him 2nd place in the A3 category. There was a good turn-out of club riders and their aggressive riding earned them 3rd in the team classification. The following is the race report from

Sean Lacey proved strongest today at the Kerry County Cycling Championships hosted by Tralee BC winning in a solo attack. Sean was on the attack early with Matt Slattery, Killarney CC and Barry Horgan of the promoting Tralee BC club. A big turnout of 75 riders signed on at the Manor West Hotel with the race starting on the Bracker O’Regan Road on the outskirts of Tralee. The race circuit used was a 13.8km course and was covered 4 times ( 1 Lap for Under 16,14,12 ). The circuit was a new route used by Tralee BC and proved popular amongst the riders. A 3km climb of Bullock Hill on each lap and with the finish line located on it too proved a good test and the Dan Morrissey rider who won the Lacey Cup earlier in the year and has had more success of recent events was an extremely worthy winner.

The sun shone throughout the event and with many supporters along the race route there was a good atmosphere. In the team prize Killarney CC took the honors from Tralee BC with Killorglin CC finishing in 3rd place. Congratulations to all our club riders who participated. Barry Horgan raced strongly and was in the main break of the day. An incredible ride for the A3 man who took 3rd overall in this category. In the A4 category George Doyle and Sean McCarron were 2nd and 3rd respectively. Sean McCarron won the over 40 category with Mike Leahy finishing in 3rd. Following a successful day for the club Kevin Griffin won the over 50 category.

Tralee BC would like to thank the massive turnout from their members who did race stewarding, lead cars, etc., to ensure a safe race. Thanks also to the Red Cross and to our sponsors Manor West Hotel for their hospitality.
