Press Release
Kerry Group Rás Mumhan 2009
Wed. 11th February 2009
The first big stage race of the Irish cycle racing season ‘Kerry Group Rás Mumhan’ will take place over the Easter weekend from Good Friday 10 April to Easter Monday 13 April 2009. The Rás, which is promoted by the local club in Killorglin, is a four day International Cycle Race and is based in Killorglin, Co. Kerry.
This year an exciting sponsorship agreement has been put in place which sees Kerry Group coming on board as the main sponsor of the race. The 2009 race is suitably named Kerry Group Rás Mumhan. Speaking about the announcement, Mícheal Concannon, Chairman of the organising committee for Rás Mumhan said: “We are delighted to reveal that Kerry Group is the new sponsor of Rás Mumhan 2009. The company’s association with the event is a huge boost to everyone involved and their generous support will greatly improve the profile of the race”.
Kerry Group Rás Mumhan will be held over 4 stages, three of which will start and finish in Killorglin and on Sunday 12 April, the stage will start and finish in Waterville, which is situated approximately 50km south of Killorglin. The full details of the stages will be released shortly on the Killorglin cycling club website at HYPERLINK "http://www.killorglincycling.com" www.killorglincycling.com. Frank Hayes, Director of Corporate Affairs, Kerry Group commented: “Kerry Group is very pleased to be lending its support to such a high calibre race which attracts top quality cyclists from both the international and national arena. The challenging landscape of the south west of Ireland is appropriately matched to this premier cycling event and it offers a unique opportunity to watch elite riders compete in this picturesque part of Ireland”.
Rás Mumhan has been in existence since the 1950s and for the last 10 years has been held in Killorglin. The race has proved itself to be a top quality race and for 2009 quality teams from Britain, Holland, France, Turkey and South Africa have expressed their interest in competing in the race along with top Irish teams.
The race is open to senior categories 1, 2, 3, women and veterans. Any clubs, teams or individuals interested in taking part in the race should contact the Race Secretary, Mary Concannon: Tel: 00 353 64 44396 / 00 353 87 2802071, HYPERLINK "mailto:maryconcannon@eircom.net" maryconcannon@eircom.net.
